The Supreme Court previously had turned away some challenges to the bump stocks prohibition. Cargill sued to challenge the rule, which required him to surrender his two bump stocks. That decision "threatens significant harm to public safety," the Justice Department said in a filing to the Supreme Court. "Bump stocks allow a shooter to fire hundreds of bullets a minute by a single pull of the trigger.

Ukraine reported a lower success rate in shooting down Russian missiles targeting Odesa. Ukraine's president said it needs better missile defense systems to stop infrastructure attacks. Volodymyr Zelenskyy, Ukraine's president, on Wednesday said that Ukraine urgently needed more air defense systems. He called on Ukraine's Western allies to supply it with more SAMP/T and Patriot missile defense systems to protect against Russian attacks. And according to the ECFR report, Kyiv is the only Ukrainian city with sufficient air defense protection, and Ukraine's other major cities remain vulnerable to Russian attacks.

Turkey's S-400 lacks that integration, as it hasn't been connected to NATO's radar network because alliance members fear that doing so could expose other systems to Russian observation. That made Russia's S-400 seem like not only a valid alternative but a preferable option to the US-made Patriot missile-defense system. (The US withdrew Patriot batteries from Turkey in late 2015, adding to Turkish concerns and desire for another air-defense system.) Following his visit to London and Paris, Zelenskiy arrived in Brussels on Thursday to push EU leaders for more weapons in the fight against Russia's invasion and for a quick start to EU membership talks. Italy's Foreign Minister said on Wednesday Meloni would meet Zelenskiy on the sidelines of the EU leaders meeting, which will end on Friday. Zelenskiy, who is seeking better aerial firepower to turn the war against Russia, won a British pledge to train Ukrainian pilots on advanced NATO fighter jets. Last week France and Italy finalised technical talks for the joint delivery of a SAMP/T-MAMBA air defence system to Ukraine in spring of this year.

Some claim it performed better than the M1 Abrams tanks that Saudi Arabia has used in that conflict. The Leclerc's lighter weight may make it more maneuverable than the other Western tanks headed to Ukraine. But other than Rafale jet fighters, the most powerful weapon — symbolically and militarily — that France could provide would be Leclerc tanks.
